Rectal Cancer is a common type of Colon cancer. Patients are normally diagnosed on colonoscopy .This may either be because of screening for colon cancer or because of symptoms of rectal cancer e.g. tenesmus, rectal bleeding, constipation or diarrhea (change in bowel habit.) Rectal cancer often develops out of Adenomatous polyps through a process of dysplasia, hence the benefit of early detection through screening colonoscopy.
